WSPRAgram, July 2012
  reform Breaking News!  Education Reform
This Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has announced that its waiver to No Child Left Behind has been accepted by the federal government.  A news release has gone out from DPI (release at: http://dpi.wi.gov/eis/pdf/dpinr2012_79.pdf), so you may soon be receiving phone calls from your local media.

Thanks to a WSPRA subcommittee and CESA 6, we have a general timeline and summary information you can use in parent and staffletters, updates to the board and local media.

Some things to keep in mind:

  1. Stay positive!  The key part of this whole waiver is accountability and you want the public to know that you embrace accountability and transparency.
  2. Don’t stop communicating.  This is a process with different pieces coming into play over the next couple of years.  Reassure parents what you are doing to help their students succeed.  Reassure staff that the new evaluations will not be made public, and always make sure they and the Board of Education are among the first to know of any changes.  Reassure the community that you are on board with the challenge of creating a future workforce that is knowledgeable, adaptable and competitive.
  3. Do keep it simple.  Don’t slide into educational jargon or confuse with too many acronyms.

WSPRA is here to help you, so please contact us if you have any questions on this process, how to use the summary information, or want to offer suggestions and samples we can share with our members.
